GoNoodle’s mission is to support kids, parents, and teachers, and we are standing with the teachers speaking up and walking out in states across America to fight for better funding for their students and schools.
— Sherman Alexie, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
At GoNoodle, we spend a lot of time in the classroom working with teachers and kids, so we know the environment well. As a whole, we see so many dedicated teachers giving their time, effort, and — all too often — their own personal money to support the kids in their classrooms. That is why we are so disheartened by what has happened in Arizona, Kentucky, Oklahoma, West Virginia (and many other states in the country). We want teachers everywhere to know that we stand in solidarity with you.
Since 2010, the average teacher salary has DROPPED in 43 out of 50 states. This is happening at a time of unprecedented economic growth in our country. In the U.S., nearly nine out of ten kids attend public school, and yet, in many places, our schools are under-funded, our teachers underpaid and our school kids under-resourced. We are not talking about building the classrooms of the future here — many of these schools are using wildly outdated textbooks, learning from materials of the past, lacking nutritional food service and attending school in crumbling buildings because their states leaders can’t figure out how to do the right thing for the people who need it most.
This should not be happening. It is unacceptable and unfair to our kids. If we don’t take action to support our teachers, we are telling our kids that their education doesn’t matter to us — that what they deserve is outdated materials, tired facilities, sometimes dangerous conditions, and an education that is too often completely devoid of joy. Our teachers deserve more; our kids deserve better.
At GoNoodle, we believe that movement powers change. I hope you’ll join me and the rest of the GoNoodle family to help support our teachers. At the end of the day, we want teachers to know that we hear you, we see you and we are with you. Let’s make things better NOW, so our kids can have a better tomorrow.
